About Carl Schrag

Carl Schrag is a journalist, teacher and Middle East analyst who shares his expert perspectives on Israeli affairs with audiences across North America. He puts current events into perspective by examining them in the context of recent and ancient history, sharing insights about the hopes and dreams embraced by 6.9 million Israelis, and stressing the significance of Israel’s relationship with Jews in America and around the world.

Carl moved to Israel from Los Angeles in 1986, and in his award-winning career as a reporter and editor, he chronicled political and social developments in Israel through a period that saw the ingathering of one million immigrants from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia, and the highs and lows encountered in Israel’s pursuit of peace. He was the Editor of The Jerusalem Post, Israel’s leading English-language daily.

He came to the United States in 2000 to broaden his perspective on the U.S.-Israel relationship. He has worked closely with Jewish and Christian supporters of Israel, and as well as with student activists across the country. He studies Israel on campus, Israel education and the changing relationship between American Jews and Israel, with a particular emphasis on how current events impact these ties.

In his presentations to adults, college students and teens, Carl addresses a wide range of topics related to Israel, providing probing analysis of developments in the Middle East and closer to home. His writing appears in Jewish and general publications, including Slate.com, the Chicago Sun-Times, the New York Jewish Week, Moment Magazine and others. His work is supported by the Jewish Investigative Journalism Fund, the Charles and Andrea Bronfman Philanthropies and the American Jewish Committee. He is Senior Mentor of Write On For Israel, an Israel education and advocacy program for high school students, and an Associate of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs
